Wage Garnishment
Hello, I was just wanting to know if there is some way I can stop wage garnishment on my payroll check? It will start on my next check, and taken out each check. I live in North Carolina and I work in a job making about 16000-17000 a year. I really can't afford $140 taken out every month. Is there anyway I could get the state to stop the garnishment and setup a payment plan that I can afford?

Wage garnishment laws vary from state-to-state. You might need to contact an attorney licensed to practice law in North Carolina. Look up your local Legal Aid organization and they might be able to connect you with an attorney as a pro-bono case. Local universities are a good place to start because their law schools often have a Legal Aid department or organization or work regularly with an outside Legal Aid organization.
